February additions:

1.    Added to the "Who Was Bazil Butt?" section, photo's of the Buttstown area taken in 2008 by a distant cousin.

They can be found here:  Buttstown photo's

2.    Added to the "Additional Photo's, Newspaper Articles, Maps, etc." section, the following photo taken in 2008 by a cousin.

        Here are links:

        A.    Martinsburg, WV - Berkeley County, WV, county seat

        B.    Greensburg, WV - founded by my gr gr gr gr grandparents William Green Jr. and wife Ann (Butt) Green

        C.    Jackson Corner and Manor Hill, PA - the area from which Andrew Houston may have been

3.    Bakerton, WV - Added a map illustration the location with respect to other notable places in the area

4.    Thomas Neal "Bare" Butt had his DNA tested.  The results were received on 2/4/2009.  His matches mine and all those whose match mine, exactly.  This means the probability is 90+% that Thomas Neal "Bare" Butt and all of us whose DNA matches his, had a common male ancestor within the past 10 generations.  I've added a section called "Rignal Butt, The Hatter, b. 8/10/1802" to the site.  All the information I have about him is there.  Here's "Bare's" paternal ancestors:

Reginal Butt, d. ~ 1811 in Botetourt County, VA.

    - Rignal Butt - The Hatter - b. 8/10/1802 - Rignal The Hatter was an orphan; guardian was John Helms, a Methodist minister.

        - Henry Clay Butt - b. 4/15/1842

            - Arthur Stuart Butt - b. 4/15/1876

                - Hubert Hamilton Butt - b. 1920

                    - Thomas Neal "Bear" Butt

Here's a link to Rignal Butt, The Hatter, b. 8/10/1802

5.    Completely revised the Thomas Butt, b. 9/18/1763 - Rev War veteran section of this site.

6.    Completely revised the John Butt, b. between 1/1/1788 and 6/30/1788 section of the site.

7.    Updated charts in "Summary" Section.

8.    Added to the "Rignal Butt, The Hatter, b. 8/10/1802" section, the  Butt Excursus.  Rignal The Hatter is discussed in this document as are his father, other Rignal's and many more BUTT people.

9.    Added two sections to the site; one for the Don C. Woods Berkeley County Journal "Buttstown" article and the other for the "Smoketown and Greensburg" article.

10.  Added "People and relationships in colonial Maryland" chart, includes people who were mentioned in the Edward Butt Orphan's court bond and estate settlement.

March additions:

I received from Kevin Kasson of Columbus, Ohio, a .pdf file of a book of the early Kasson Family History.  It's in the "Who Was Bazil Butt?" Section.  Here's a link:

Kasson Family History .pdf

On March 13th I recieved from the Montgomery County, Maryland Historical Society  some much welcomed information about the family of John Luther Butt.  I posted all that information in the "My Theory About My BUTT/GREEN Ancestors" section.  You will find there as well, a revised study of the family of Samuel The Planter, son of Richard Butt of Batchelor's Delight.  Here's link to that new information:

Samuel Butt The Planter Family

In May, 2009, I received a message from Eva about the Family Group Sheet I have posted for Jeremiah Butts.  She gave me permission to post the information she sent me.  Here's a link that will take you to that information.  From Eva about Jeremiah Butts

In April, we received the results of a 25-marker DNA test of Clarence Julian "Sonny" Butt from Maryland.  His matches me and the others who I match.  This is very, very exciting new information.  While we are still being cautious, it seems almost certain that Sonny descends thru father-to-son relationships from Richard Butt of Batchelors Delight.  This would mean that all those who match Sonny do to.  And most importantly to me is that I am almost certain now where to look for the other ancestors of my gr gr grandfather Bazil Butt, b. 3/13/1797.  For more information about all this click on this link:
